where we will have demonstrations on pruning and planting and answer all your questions
on getting your garden ready for the season and winning a prize at the June Rose Show.
You will also get all the latest information on the Rose Show. Door prizes will be available.
Members are invited to contribute plants and/or garden related items as door prizes.

DETAILS: Greetings all,At the moment, we are a "Go" for our first in-person meeting at the Aspray Boat House in Pawtuxet Village, Warwick, RI, on Saturday, August 14th.
We hope all attendees will have been vaccinated, or wear a mask indoors. I am vaccinated but will have my mask with me anyway..We have a tentative agenda as follows -
12:00 - 1:30 - Potluck lunch, set-up indoors and served by "The Masked Servers"
1:30 - 2:00 - Brief meeting and updates, outdoors (fingers crossed)
2:00 - 3:00 - Rose Show Gift Distribution, outdoors (fingers crossed)
3:00 - 4:00 - Social Hour and Desserts on the outdoor Back Patio (no alcohol however, sorry, rules)
This schedule would allow folks to attend for all or part or the meeting, depending upon their comfort level with being out and about. The Boat House is quite airy and the back doors open up onto a bricked patio that sits along Pawtuxet Cove. We will have extra masks and hand sanitizer on-site. If you're think of coming, could you drop us a quick note, so we know how many chairs and tables to set up ? And if you're thinking of bringing food, could you please let Nancy know at rirsrose@gmail.com ? And if you plan to attend to pick up your Rose Show Award, please let Diane know at the same e-mail. In their PowerPoint program, "Radler Roses: Knock Outs and Beyond", you'll learn about the man behind the Knock Out roses
as well as the many other low maintenance, disease resistant varieties he created.
There will be updates from Rose Show chairs Diane and Chuck Brailsford on our upcoming rose show, "Virtual Enchantment of the Rose";
and you can ask Patsy Cunningham any last-minute questions about your horticultural or arrangement photos before the June 19 photo submission deadline.

Saturday May 8, 2021 from 10 AM to 12:30 PM Please join us for our May meeting, where we will review classes and requirements for our Virtual Rose Show. This year, we will be accepting photograph entries through June 19th, submitted to Patsy Cunningham. Learn how to prepare your digital files to put your best foot forward. We will then dive into companion planting! This year in lieu of Rose Fest, learn about blue flowering plants as we take a look at how to add them to your rose garden: Montine Ross will present Into the Blues, about bulbs, annuals, perennials, shrubs to consider, and Rachelle Desrochers will present I Got The Native Plant Blues, incorporating blue and violet native flowers into your garden. Spring forward into an exciting new season that brings forth refreshing changes for the growth of our gardens.
What is the first thing we do in the spring? We prune! To help us achieve the best rose garden ever, our program of experts include: Mike and Angie Chute, who will present PowerPoint presentations on Pruning and Planting Bare Root Roses, Irwin and Cindy Ehrenreich, will show a video to demonstrate correct pruning practices.
Members are invited to send before and after photos of pruning examples from their gardens. Please send your photos to Nancy Gaiewski by April 7.

Join us for our Annual Meeting where we will welcome Gail Read, Horticulturalist and Garden Manager at Blithewold Mansion, Gardens and Arboretum in Bristol, RI. Gail will present a PowerPoint program on Small Garden Design which will focus on basic garden principles applied to small spaces while maximizing your garden enjoyment. Gail will also discuss changes made to the Blithewold Rose Garden.
In addition, we will introduce our 2021-2022 Officers, have our Annual President and Treasurer Reports and present our 2020 President Award. Information about our upcoming Virtual Rose Show will also be announced

Following the success of our first Virtual Meeting we are going to follow it up with a VIRTUAL GARDEN PARTY. Members are invited to show and discuss their favorite roses of the growing season. Roses can be shown alone, in sprays, arrangements, bouquets, or, whatever works. They can be shown however you can get them on screen - whatever works with your computer expertise - this is just going to be a fun meeting. This has been a fantastic growing season so we should be treated to a wonderful display of ROSES - this is what we are all about. To take part in this unique event, email Nancy Gaiewski and express your interest. Nancy will reply with everything you need to join the meeting. For even greater incentive, we will have a wonderful "door prize". Some lucky member will win a wonderful gift basket put together by Lynne Harrington - what more could you ask for?? Come join your fellow rose lovers and enjoy their wonderful roses. The drive is very short - dress is optional and snacks are up to you - couldn't be easier.

RIRS ANNUAL MEETING - come join us for another wonderful meeting. We will have the introduction of OFFICERS for the year, our TREASURER'S REPORT, and a talk by our incoming PRESIDENT. We will have additional information on our upcoming events: Yankee District Convention (hosted by RIRS); Rose Fest in May; and, of course our June Rose Show. We will have sign-up sheets to support all of these events. You will also be able to pick up any RIRS logo clothing you have ordered. PLUS - WE HAVE A WONDERFUL SPEAKER - Gail Read - Horticulturist and Gardens and Greenhouse Manager at Blithewold in Bristol, RI. She will speak on "Small Garden Design" and also talk on changes planned for the Blithewold Rose Garden. Many of us are familiar with this wonderful facility - a great opportunity for all to become familiar with it. Should be a great talk. Time to Enjoy! Come & celebrate the end of a successful rose gardening year at our Annual Holiday Meeting which features a glorious Holiday Arrangement Demonstration by Elissa Della Piana and hand crafted Arts and Crafts by members. The 2020 June Rose Show Theme will be announced with sign-up sheets to support the event. Information about the Yankee District Conference will be presented. Also learn about an Arrangement Seminar to be held in January. Plan to pick up your 2020 Calendar. Take a sneak peak at the RIRS clothing that can be ordered at the January and February meetings. ************
The RIRS will hold its regular monthly meeting Saturday, November 9, from 10am to 12:30pm. The meeting will take place at Anchor Bay, 1440 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence, RI.
This month's meeting will feature Society members Frank Karikas, Montine Ross, and Clive Nickerson speaking on the topics of SOIL, COMPANION PLANTS, and SPROUTING ROSES FROM SEED, respectively. They will of course be ready to answer questions any of us may have on these fascinating topics.
Now that Fall is here and it's time to put our rose gardens to bed, the meeting will wrap up with a discussion led by our Consulting Rosarians on Lessons Learned and Closing the Garden.
